About Us

About New Zealand Masters Swimming

New Zealand Masters Swimming (NZMS) is the national organisation supporting adult swimming throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. We provide opportunities for swimmers aged 18 and over to enjoy swimming for fitness, friendship, personal challenge, recreation and competition.

Masters Swimming welcomes swimmers of all abilities. Some members are former competitive swimmers, while many others return to the pool after a break from the sport or take up swimming later in life. Whether your goal is improving fitness, learning new skills, participating in open water events, competing at local and national championships, or simply enjoying regular exercise with a supportive group of people, there is a place for you in Masters Swimming.

NZ Masters Swimming supports Masters swimming across New Zealand by:

Safeguarding national swimming records, historical archives, and competition results

Providing the governance structure and policies that enable clubs and members to operate within a consistent framework.

Facilitating national committees that contribute expertise and leadership across a range of areas.

Managing the organisation's website, digital platforms, and member information systems.

Maintaining the national membership database and registration processes.

Keeping members informed through regular newsletters and national communications.

Securing sponsorship, funding, and strategic partnerships that support the long-term success of Masters swimming.

Building strong relationships with swimming organisations nationally and internationally.

Sanctioning Masters events and maintaining a coordinated nationwide calendar to support participation and competition opportunities.

NZMS works alongside affiliated clubs across New Zealand to support swimming opportunities in local communities. Our clubs provide coaching, organised training sessions, social activities, endurance challenges, open water swimming opportunities and participation in regional, national and international events.

In addition to supporting clubs and members, NZMS maintains national records and rankings, sanctions Masters swimming events, coordinates the national competition calendar and promotes participation in international Masters swimming activities. We also provide governance, policies and resources to help clubs operate successfully and continue growing Masters swimming throughout New Zealand.

The values of Masters Swimming are built around lifelong participation, personal achievement, inclusion and community. Success is measured not only by medals and records, but also by improved health, confidence, friendships and the enjoyment of swimming at every stage of life.

Whether you’re looking to swim faster, swim further, stay active, meet new people or simply rediscover your love of the water, New Zealand Masters Swimming can help you find a club and start your journey.
