Supporting Masters Swimming Clubs

New Zealand Masters Swimming (NZMS) recognises that clubs are at the heart of our organisation. They provide opportunities for adults across New Zealand to stay active, improve their swimming, build friendships, and enjoy the many benefits of belonging to a supportive community.

NZMS works alongside affiliated clubs to help maintain a strong and sustainable Masters Swimming network throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. We aim to support clubs by providing leadership, guidance, resources, and opportunities that help them serve their members effectively.

Building Strong and Sustainable Clubs

Strong clubs create positive experiences for swimmers. Therefore, NZMS encourages the development of welcoming, inclusive, and well-managed club environments where swimmers of all abilities can participate and thrive.

We are committed to supporting clubs as they grow membership, strengthen governance, recruit volunteers, and create opportunities for swimmers to remain involved throughout their lives.

Resources and Guidance

NZMS develops policies, procedures, and information resources to help clubs operate efficiently and meet their obligations as affiliated organisations.

In addition, we work to share knowledge, best practice, and practical guidance that clubs can adapt to meet their local needs. By working together, clubs can benefit from the experience and expertise of the wider Masters Swimming community.

Supporting Events and Participation

Masters Swimming offers opportunities for participation at every level, from local club activities through to national and international events.

NZMS supports the delivery of competitions, open water events, endurance activities, and other swimming opportunities that encourage members to challenge themselves, set personal goals, and celebrate their achievements.

Furthermore, we promote participation pathways that allow swimmers to engage in Masters Swimming in ways that suit their interests, abilities, and ambitions.

Strengthening the Masters Swimming Community

One of NZMS’s most important roles is connecting clubs and swimmers across New Zealand. By fostering collaboration and communication, we help create a stronger national Masters Swimming community.

Clubs play a vital role in welcoming new members, supporting lifelong participation, and promoting the values of Masters Swimming. As a result, NZMS is committed to working alongside clubs to ensure the continued growth and success of the sport.

Working Together

The success of New Zealand Masters Swimming depends on the dedication of club committees, coaches, officials, volunteers, and members. Therefore, NZMS values the contribution of every club and remains committed to supporting their ongoing development.

Together, we can continue to provide opportunities for adults across New Zealand to enjoy swimming for fitness, friendship, personal achievement, and competition.
